Diet Coke Makes you Fat Faster…

I was disturbed by a piece of interview which I read the other day. It was about this lady who claimed that she loved diet coke so much that she consumed up to a case (12 cans) daily. I wonder if she knew about the damaging effects of her habit.

Diet and sugar-free products have been created to cater to weight-conscious consumers. Unfortunately, studies have shown that people who consume diet and sugar-free products do in fact have higher risk of putting on weight. This is because these people suffer from a sub-conscious belief that because they are consuming diet sugar-free products, this would give them leeway to consume more of other food. As time goes on, they end up eating more and put on extra weight.

Also, diet and sugar-free products almost always contain an artificial sweetener called “Aspartame”. Aspartame has been suspected of interfering with our body’s hormones and may trigger our body to store more fats. This is another reason why people who consume diet and sugar-free products may be prone to weight gain instead of losing weight.

The trouble does not end here. In the book titled “Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic”, the author wrote about the health risks associated with aspartame consumption, which range from minor discomforts such as headache, dizziness and loss of balance, to very serious irreparable conditions such as blindness, memory loss, multiple sclerosis and nervous breakdown.

Now, let’s come back to the lady who drinks 12 cans of coke a day. She has a very high risk of weight gain (if she is not already obese) which could lead her to cardio-vascular diseases and a host of other problems associated with aspartame consumption. We do not need to be a health expert to suspect that she might suffer from accelerated bone loss and thin stomach tissues because we all know that the soda in her favorite 12-cans-a-day is super corrosive. In fact, soda is so corrosive that it is an active ingredient found in some industrial cleaning products. A simple experiment would prove this – drop any nail into a glass of soda carbonated drink and watch the liquid dissolve away the surface of the nail in an hour or two. And finally, this lady’s kidneys have to work extra hard to filter away the many chemicals in her drinks and she is thus prone to kidney failure which could be life threatening.

So, whenever you feel thirsty, instead of reaching out for that tempting can of coke, ask for a glass of water. 8 glasses of water a day keeps the doctor away!
